Compared with using a single cell alone, solar cells composed of two semiconductors with different band gaps can achieve higher efficiency when used in series. This is because the series battery makes more efficient use of the solar spectrum. In particular, the traditional silicon solar cell mainly converts the infrared component of light into electric energy effectively, while some perovskite compounds can effectively use the visible component of solar light, making it a powerful combination.
At present, the experimental efficiency of the layered cell containing perovskite has exceeded that of the single perovskite cell, which fully shows that the layered structure is an effective method to achieve more efficient use of solar energy.
